A three-vehicle collision at around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday has sent eight people to hospital and left one toddler dead.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary say police responded to the accident at the intersection of Robert E. Howlett Drive and Ruby Line in St. John's.

A green Chevrolet Equinox headed northbound struck a blue Toyota Rav-4 traveling west on Ruby Line, which then struck a red Nissan Versa. One of the vehicles burst into flames on the scene.

Paramedics from Eastern Health and the St. John's Regional Fire Department also responded to the scene and helped transport eight people to hospital. The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driving the Toyota Rav-4 remains in serious condition at this time.

The RNC are looking for any witnesses to the accident, particularly those who may have dashcam footage from the area between 2:40 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000.
