NEW-WES-VALLEY, NL – Precautions were implemented for visitors at another health care facility in central Newfoundland due to cases of gastrointestinal illness today, March 14.
Effective immediately, total visitor precautions are in place at Bonnews Lodge in New-Wes-Valley.
With the exception of family members visiting palliative care residents, no other visitors are allowed at this time.
Limited visitor precautions are also in place at Lakeside Homes in Gander and the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor for the same reason.
Common symptoms of gastrointestinal illness, which can occur year-round, include diarrhea and/or vomiting, and may be accompanied by muscle aches and low-grade fever.
It can be debilitating for the very young, the very old, and those with compromised immune systems.
Everyone visiting any Central Health facility is reminded to wash their hands after arriving and before they leave.
Anyone experiencing any symptoms of gastrointestinal illness should delay visiting any healthcare facility until at least 48 hours after symptoms have subsided.
