The Public Service Alliance of Canada and the St. John’s International Airport Authority say they have ratified their collective agreement.
A tentative agreement was reached on Nov. 8 and union members approved the deal on Nov. 16.
The parties have accepted a collective agreement with a five-year term, starting Jan. 1 and expiring on Dec. 31, 2021. The agreement provides a 12-per-cent wage increase for airport employees over the term of the agreement.
“We are delighted to have reached a fair and reasonable settlement that achieves the best balance between the rights and interests of our employees and the Authority’s responsibility to affordably manage our airport’s future,” said airport president and CEO Keith Collins said in a news release.
“We are pleased that this agreement was reached by direct face-to-face meetings between the parties, without the need for the assistance of a third-party mediator.”
PSAC regional executive vice-president Colleen Coffey commended both parties for the dedication to the collective bargaining process that lead to the agreement.
“This collective agreement recognizes the important role workers play in the airport’s success,” Coffey said.
