Despite the efforts of the Baie Verte Fire Department, flames continued to tower from the personal care home on High Street as darkness fell. The fire began early evening, and all residents got out safe and sound. They were being housed in a local church as the blaze ripped through the facility. Reports from the town are the building will be a total loss.
The Baie Verte Fire Department remain on the scene, trying to get control of the fire. There appears to be no immediate danger to nearby houses, but some families were evacuated as a precaution earlier this evening.
According to Central Health, primary health coordinators and social workers are also on site and working with the home's operators and community partners to ensure the health care needs and temporary accommodations are met.
