Western Health is promoting checkitoutnl.ca, a website that allows users to take an anonymous screening questionnaire for mental health and addictions issues. It’s meant for people 18 years and older, and has screenings for conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, eating disorders, and substance/alcohol use disorders. There’s also a brief screening for parents who suspect adolescent depression.
“Mental health is a key part of your overall health. We hope this screening program provides an opportunity to get people thinking about mental health as being a part of their overall health and well being,” said Tara Welsh, a regional mental health promotion consultant, in a news release.
“Just as you would get a check-up for your physical health, it’s important to get a check-up for your mental health.”
The online screening tools will be promoted at screening awareness events. For more information, visit www.checkitoutnl.ca or call 709-634-4171.
