The Buchans Public Library is one of the places in Buchans which has welcomed the news of fibreop servicebeing brought to the town. Librarian Dawn Pennell said that patrons of the library's CAP site have almost doubled in the past year, due partly to the slow service they receive at home. The library has five Community Access Program computers for public use.

The controversial announcement that 54 libraries across the province will close is part of a move to a new regional library system that will save the province $1 million.
The Provincial Information and Library Resources Board said this list is tentative and may be subject to change.
