Despite another reported sighting and a nasty winter storm approaching, Ziggy the dog was still missing as of deadline Wednesday. The 11-year-old mixed breed ran off from the Gibbon’s Road area after being startled by fireworks around 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve. He has been spotted at numerous locations on the city’s east side since. The last one reported was near Farnell’s Lane in the Humbermouth area Wednesday morning.

After a couple of days in the wilderness Ziggy the dog is one his way home.

Early Thursday evening, it was reported the 11-year-old mixed breed dog was found between the Kent parking lot and Clarence Street.

It is with good timing too as a powerful winter storm bears down on the west coast that could’ve been disastrous for search efforts heading into the weekend.

Ziggy had been missing since being scared off by fireworks near his home on Gibbons Avenue in Corner Brook at around 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve.

In the days following his escape, he has reportedly been spotted numerous times since the search for him began. While the initial sightings were on the west side of the city nearer to where his owners live, the most recent reports have had him ranging into the Humbermouth and Riverside Drive area. Some people had even thought they saw him on the Trans-Canada Highway, just east of Corner Brook.

The last sightings of him before he was retrieved were somewhere between the Murphy Square area and Clarence Street, as well as near the river in Steady Brook.

In a post on Twitter late Thursday afternoon, the NL West SPCA said Ziggy was on his way home and appeared to be in good shape.

A neighbour was caring for Ziggy when he went missing. His owners, who were vacationing in the United States, have arranged flights to come home early and are expected to arrive back in Corner Brook Friday night.
