A man accused of stabbing an 18-year-old man at a residence in the west end of St. John’s earlier this week appeared in provincial court Wednesday and Thursday, where he was formally charged with a total of 20 offences.
Thomas Keeping, 31, faces charges related to the stabbing, which happened early Tuesday morning, as well as a slew of others. He has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, assault, break and entry, driving while disqualified, theft under $5,000, mischief by damaging property, three counts of possessing property obtained by crime, and 10 counts of breaching court orders.
The charges came in gradually over the two days, as police continued their investigation.
Police were called to the area of Outerbridge and Doyle streets around 8 a.m. Tuesday, after receiving a report that a man had been stabbed. Members of the K-9 unit assisted in locating Keeping, who had reportedly fled the scene and hidden in a backyard in the neighbourhood.
The teenage victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police believe the stabbing wasn’t a random act.
Keeping will make his next appearance in provincial court Dec. 11 via video link from Her Majesty’s Penitentiary.
