A man accused of trying to kill a woman with prescription medication last year has pleaded not guilty.
Mark Rumbolt, 57, was arraigned in Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court in St. John’s Wednesday, where he entered not guilty pleas to charges of attempted murder and administering a noxious substance with the attention to harm, electing to be tried by jury.
A 10-day trial has been set to start on Sept. 24, 2018.
Rumbolt, who is represented by lawyer Jeff Brace, is alleged to have given a woman an excessive amount of prescription pills — the type has not yet been disclosed — at a home in the west end of St. John’s on Jan. 22 of last year.

Paramedics were called to the home and brought both Rumbolt and the woman to hospital. The RNC was called shortly afterward.
Rumbolt was arrested 10 months later, after police received laboratory results from evidence collected at the home. He was released from custody on a $10,000 surety.
