Nicky, a beagle mix turned, an astounding 21 this week.

Nicky came to Beagle Paws in December 2013 at age 17 and has been with foster mom Krista Keats ever since.

According to the non-profit, his owner had died and he was surrendered to the local SPCA.

Nicky had lived his entire life in a raised outdoor pen and had never known the comforts of the comforts of living inside prior to his foster placement, a representative of Beagle Paws said.

Nicky takes medications for Cushings Disease and some mobility issues, but otherwise is living the good life after so many years of loneliness and cold nights.

Nicky’s 21st birthday was celebrated at Pet Planet Thursday as Beagle Paws launched its “Sponsor a Senior or Special Needs Beagle” seasonal campaign where donors can pay for part of or all medical expenses for one of its special dogs, like Nicky.

The average age of a beagle is about 12-15 years. Although beagles have lived to be older, non-profit organizers have never heard of one that old.
