A new service from the Department of Transportation and Works allows residents of the province to see current and previous positions of snow clearing equipment.
The provincial government says the Provincial Plow Tracker will help motorists plan for safer trips on highways throughout the province.
The service, which can be found on the department’s website at roads.gov.nl.ca, is only available for the Avalon Peninsula and routes with overnight snow clearing so far.
It will be expanded to additional depots throughout the province this winter, however.
“The plow tracking website helps give people a clearer understanding of what to expect on our highways and to make better decisions before travelling,” Transportation and Works Minister Steve Crocker said in a news release.
“However, we remind all motorists that the best way to stay safe while driving during the wintertime is to slow down and drive to conditions.”
The department has replaced 16 snow plows in its provincial fleet of 303 flyers, 26 graders and 137 loaders.
