GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NL – There is another change coming for obstetrical labour and delivery services in Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor.

Starting on Friday, Feb. 16, obstetrical labour and delivery services are being diverted from James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre in Gander to the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor.

Central Health says the service diversion is due to the availability of obstetricians and is expected to last a minimum of three months.

Prenatal clinic referrals from family physicians will continue to be received by the Women’s Health Network (WHN), the health authority said in an advisory today, Feb. 14.

Expectant moms do not need to call to reschedule their prenatal clinic appointments and do not need new referrals from their family physicians. If there are any changes to their prenatal clinic appointment details, they will be contacted.

Scheduled prenatal appointments (including ultrasounds) and gynecology services at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre are not affected by the diversion.

Anyone who feels they may be in labour and the intended place of delivery is James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre should proceed to the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre.

If it feels that delivery may happen quickly, go to the nearest emergency department for assessment.
