The burglar alarm was still blaring and RNC officers were taking a man into custody when the Telegram showed up on the scene of a break and enter early Tuesday morning.

The 28 year-old male suspect, who had been found inside the business, was handcuffed and questioned as he stood in the parking lot. He was then placed in the rear of one of the police cruisers.

The incident happened at Old Town Pizza on St. David’s Avenue in Mount Pearl at about 1:15 a.m. Police had apparently arrived within a minute or two of the incident and several other police vehicles could be seen cruising the area around the restaurant as they searched for a possible second suspect.

An RNC K-9 team was also present as the officer and dog tracked around the pizzeria and down to Ruth Avenue. One car was pulled over on Glendale Avenue as other officers searched the walking trail in the area.

The suspect in custody was charged with break and enter and released for a later court date.

More details will be provided as they become available.
