St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) crews from various stations responded to a fire call at the Torbay Estates apartment complex Friday just before 10 a.m.

A pot on a stovetop overheated, causing a minor fire.

The first crews from the Kent’s Pond station were met with smoke coming from the apartment window in Building C.

There was minor damage caused to the unit and the stovetop pot was heavily damaged and scorched when taken outside by firefighter Terry Edwards of the Kent’s Pond station.

An elderly female resident was placed in the cab of the Kent’s Pond pumper to keep warm from the chilly fall air.

Once the OK was given by Capt. Paddy Power, residents

headed back inside, including the woman, with assistance from firefighter Darren Hyde.

One resident carried a small pet in an animal carrier.

Eastern Health paramedics also attended, as did the RNC, but their

services were not required.

All first responder crews left the scene by 10:30 a.m., while an RNC officer remained there to do paperwork.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident.
