TERRA NOVA NATIONAL PARK – There’s a possibility you may see smoke in the Rattle Pond area of Terra Nova National Park on occasion over the next few months.
Parks Canada is preparing to carry out a prescribed fire in that area of the park if appropriate weather and moisture conditions occur between now and the end of October.
Parks Canada uses prescribed fire to improve the quality of its forests and reduce the potential for wildfires.
The Rattle Pond prescribed fire area is located near the eastern edge of park and is surrounded by a number of ponds, streams and bogs.
Smoke and technical advisories will be issued during the morning prior to a prescribed fire.
