Philip Byrne of Corner Brook jailed again for property offences

A young man from Corner Brook who has already spent some time in prison for break and entries has been sentenced to prison again for more property offences.

Phillip Seamus Byrne, 19, was sentenced to serve a total of 192 days after he entered guilty pleas to eight offences in provincial court in Corner Brook Monday morning.

The charges included stealing a snowmobile from Western Motor Sports on Lundrigan Drive in October 2016, along with breaking into Lucky’s Pub on Lester Avenue this past Sept. 18, failure to stop a motor vehicle while being pursued by the police Oct. 4 and theft from Twin Peaks Motor Sports on Commercial Street on Nov. 13.

He also pleaded guilty to three breaches of probation and breaking a court-ordered curfew Nov. 30.

Last March, Byrne was given eight months in prison for breaking into the Main Level Café in the Millbrook Mall in November 2016 and Flynn’s Pub on Broadway in January.

In addition to the latest prison term, Byrne was given two more years of probation, a one-year driving prohibition and must pay a total of $800 in victim fine surcharges.
