HARBOUR GRACE, NL — A preliminary inquiry to test the evidence in a 2014 North River murder case got underway Monday afternoon in Harbour Grace.
Allan Potter and Daniel Leonard were arrested last September and charged with first-degree murder in the death of 39-year-old Dale Porter. The body of the North River resident was found outside his home in June of 2014. Leonard, who is not in custody, was also charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Neither of the accused was in Harbour Grace Monday, as both men waived their right to appear in the courtroom for the preliminary inquiry, which is booked for eight days at provincial court.
Potter has remained at Her Majesty's Penitentiary in St. John's since his arrest last year in Ontario.
Leonard and Potter are both reportedly members of the Vikings Motorcycle Club, a group that was the subject of multiple raids around the time of their arrests last September. Several other Vikings associates were arrested on drug charges.
All evidence heard in a preliminary inquiry is subject to a publication ban.
