NORTHERN PENINSULA, NL – Municipal Affairs and Environment Minister Eddie Joyce announced over $2.3 million for infrastructure projects on the Northern Peninsula on Saturday.

Eddie Joyce was joined by Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation Minister Christopher Mitchelmore, the MHA for St. Barbe-L’Anse aux Meadows, for the announcements.

Two projects are being supported under the new three-year, $100-million provincial municipal capital works program.

The NorPen Regional Service Board will receive funding to construct a new fire hall in Flower’s Cove to service 13 communities in the region. The total cost will be over $3 million with a provincial contribution of over $1.9 million and a share from the board of approximately $825,000.

The Town of Anchor Point will receive a provincial contribution of $170,000 for road paving. The municipal share is also approximately $170,000.

Also on hand was Long Range Mountains MP Gudie Hutchings, representing Amarjeet Sohi, the federal minister of Infrastructure and Communities, who announced funding under the Small Communities Fund for the main waterline upgrades and street paving in Flower’s Cove.

The Town of Flower’s Cove is receiving a provincial contribution of over $300,000 and a federal contribution of up to approximately $300,000. The municipal share is approximately $600,000.

“The infrastructure investments that we are making in regional services, such as the fire hall at Flower’s Cove, will benefit all residents of the area,” Joyce said.

“Together with our funding contributions towards water systems and road upgrades we are creating sustainable communities that are improving the quality of life for those who live here.”
