St. John’s city council voted Monday night to approve the capital budget for 2018, covering $23 million in work.
In addition to previous, multi-year commitments, $7.9 million for 2018 will cover a handful of new projects. Those projects include: a review of Metrobus ($110,000), accessibility upgrades for the council chambers ($200,000), Victoria Park enhancements ($700,000), turf replacement at King George V soccer field ($900,000) and some water-related upgrades.

After some flooding in the area last year, there will be a storm sewer replacement at Cumberland Crescent, and an estimated $1 million is set to be spent in the Yellow Marsh area on storm water retention. This is part of the Rennie’s River watershed where, as previously reported by The Telegram, the city is concerned about risk of flooding during heavy rain.
