A male pedestrian was taken to hospital early Sunday morning after he was struck by a taxi on Columbus Drive at about 1:30 a.m.
The incident occurred at the traffic lights at the intersection with Bay Bulls Road near the Bowring Park overpass. The pedestrian was left bloodied but his injuries were not considered serious. The taxi’s windshield was caved-in and its roof was dented during the collision.
Roads were wet and it was raining heavily at the time.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating the incident.
In an earlier vehicle-pedestrian collision Saturday morning, police closed a section of Torbay Road just south of MacDonald Drive to investigate that incident. One person was taken to hospital but the extent of that person’s injuries was unknown.
Later Saturday afternoon, also on Torbay Road, one woman was taken to hospital following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection with Newfoundland Drive. The collision occurred just after 3 p.m. and slowed traffic in all directions as emergency personnel dealt with the incident. Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional fire department spread absorbent material on the road to stem the flow of fluids from the vehicles but they eventually had to call in a city of St. John’s crew due to the large amount of motor oil flowing down the road.
The woman’s injuries were not considered serious.
