While many people in St. John’s pack up and go camping over the long weekend, The Telegram asked some of those who were still in the city on Saturday to describe their ideal Victoria Day long weekend, and whether or not they were doing what they’d ideally love to do.
Here’s what they had to say.
“We came in from out of town, from Noggin Cove, to visit the grandkids. So, this is where we want to be – with them.” –Marie Gillingham, Noah’s grandmother. “Maybe just sit down and try to binge an entire video game, like try to finish Super Mario Odyssey. It’d be great to do it all in one sitting.” –Noah Mouland“I would work one day because I like my work – I design these machines and do training and contact with customers all over the world. Then I would go outdoors – take walks in the forest and stuff like that. Look for mushrooms. (But) I’m heading home (to the Netherlands). My flight is 11 p.m. tonight. I was a week at the NRC (National Research Council) doing testing for the machine that we provided over there. It’s a wave generator, like waves in the water.” –Lambert Romijnders“If I could pick a place to go, I would just go somewhere in the interior around the bay and camp and fish. That’s what I would have done but I’m just having fun here (at Bannerman Park) with the kids – that’s all I have to do this weekend.” -Enemuo Kingsley“Lots of sun and hanging out on a beach. I’m not from Newfoundland, so this is my dream May long weekend – it’s a lot better than Toronto. We’re just going to go see a movie and we’re just walking around now while it’s warm.” –Kaitlin Ruether“This is a long weekend for me anyway because I was taking some time off, but I’m going to say that this is a pretty good long weekend that we’re having here in Newfoundland now, because usually it’s cold, even at the end of May. But this year the weather is fantastic. For an ideal long weekend, I would love to have this kind of weather but maybe a little bit warmer, if possible. But I’ll take this – this is beautiful.” –Mobash Akhter“The long weekend is my birthday weekend as well, so I always look forward to that, and it’s always nice to go camping, but what I’m actually doing is catching a flight back to Montreal.” –Dylan Dyke
