A 17-year-old girl appeared in provincial court in St. John’s Saturday morning in connection with an assault at the Waterford hospital around lunchtime Friday.
Her lawyer read her charges to her before the court proceedings, so the girl did not speak during the appearance.
The Crown opposed the girl’s release and set her bail hearing for Monday morning.
Further charges could be laid against the girl in relation to another incident at the hospital in which a nurse was reportedly stabbed multiple times with a pen.
Members of the RNC were called to the hospital around 1 a.m. Friday but have not yet concluded their investigation into that incident. The nurse involved is said to have required medical treatment but was not seriously injured.
Police were called back to the hospital shortly before 12:30 Friday afternoon on a second assault report. The teenager was charged with two counts of assault as a result.
