NEW HARBOUR, NL — A man was arrested and remains in police custody after allegedly threatening to kill two people and assaulting them with a firearm.

Charges against 27-year-old Jamie Alfred Michael Phillips were laid Wednesday. The incident resulting in his arrest allegedly happened Tuesday in New Harbour. The St. John’s resident is facing four charges — assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, uttering threats to cause death and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Phillips’ first court appearance in Harbour Grace happened Wednesday. He was back in court Thursday for a potential bail hearing, but duty counsel lawyer Madeleine White suggested it would be best to set the matter over to Monday morning. The accused consented to remand custody until then.
