David Goodridge

It is with broken hearts, but thanksgiving for a life well lived, that the family of David Goodridge announce his peaceful passing on Saturday, May 5th, 2018, in his 91st year. David spent his final days surrounded by the love of family and friends in the comfort of his home in Renews. Beloved and devoted husband of Terry for 70 wonderful years. Dearly loved father of Fred (Patsy) and Gerald (Mary). Proud grandfather "Gand" of Kim (Mike), Freddie (Tracy), Darryl, and great-grandfather of Courtney (Mark), Mackenzie, Braeden, Cody, Colin, Kyle, and Keegan. Dear brother of Wallace Goodridge (Renews) and brother-in-law of Mary Ryan (Chapel’s Cove). Also survived by many nieces and nephews, and lovingly remembered by his dear friends: Belle Devine, Marjorie and Arnold Greene, Mike and Mary Chidley, Herb and Glenda Goodridge, Loyola Sullivan, and his neighbours "in the lane". Predeceased by his parents Fred and Emily May, brothers Jackie, Peter, and Frederick, and sisters Joan, Zoe, and Sheila. As well as his in-laws, Henry, Ellen, and Leo Chidley. Born in 1927, David spent most of his life in Renews where he was a well-respected member of the community. The importance of hard work, loyalty, and family values was the core of who David was. For those who had the pleasure of meeting him, they would know he was a sweet soul and a true gentleman who treated all he knew with kindness and dignity. Above all and most dear to David’s heart was his family; family was everything. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were, by far, his proudest accomplishments. Through them, he instilled the values of respect, honesty, and living life to its fullest each and every day. A legacy of his that will continue to live on. David’s family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to all who helped care for him throughout his journey. He was blessed to have been cared for by Diane Conway, Annie Croft, and Jill Walsh in his final months, as well as his nurse Michelle Rossiter. A special thank you also to Dr. Tom McGarry and the staff from Fahey’s Funeral Home for their genuine care and compassion. At David’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Fahey’s Funeral Home, Fermeuse, on Tuesday, May 8th from 2-9 pm, and Wednesday, May 9th, from 2-9pm. Funeral Mass on Thursday, May 10th, 11am at Holy Apostle’s Church, Renews. Interment to immediately follow. "To the world he was one, to us he was the world."
