GOUGH Donald Joseph March 9, 1955 – August 10, 2019 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Donald Joseph Gough at his place of residence, surrounded by his loving family members. Donald is predeceased by his parents Edward and Barbara Gough; sister Sheila Gough; stepson Norman Nixon; special cousin Brian Janes; biological parents Clayton and Eleanor Janes and 4 other siblings. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Olive Gough, St. John’s, NL; stepson Todd Nixon, St. Andrew’s, NB; son George Gough, Revelstoke, BC; brother Patrick Bruce, Victoria, BC; nephew Nolan Bruce, Victoria, BC; niece Amy Bruce, Calgary, AB; sister-in-law Hazel MacDonald, Conception Bay South, NL; brother-in-law John MacDonald, Conception Bay South, NL; niece Katherine MacDonald, Fredericton, NB; niece Ashley MacDonald, South Korea; along with numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Donald wished a special mention to lifelong friends Danny Hawley, Halifax, NS, Dave Summers, St. John’s, NL, Mary Paul, Torbay, NL and Mike O’Leary, Tequesta, FL, USA. Donald had a very full and loving life. He was a metro transit driver with Halifax Transit for 15 years followed by becoming a tractor trailer driver for several years. After moving home to St. John’s, NL, Donald became a school bus driver for Gary Mahon Services. Donald was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and also a member of the Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nations, a member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56, Pleasantville, St. John’s, NL. Donald had many more accomplishments throughout his life. During Donald’s later years, he had a hard battle with Diabetes and Kidney Failure among other life changing medical issues. However, through all these things Don managed to keep the same loving spirit and sense of humor. Therefore, Don’s wish was to thank the following for your kindness and compassion shown to him during these times; thank you: Dr. Marcus Hancock, Family Doctor, Dr. Pamela Pike, Nephrology, Dr. Mary Wells, Surgeon, Dr. Kenneth LeDez and the other doctors, nurses, and staff at the Hyperbaric Unit of HSC, the nurses and Drs of 4th floor HSC, dialysis units of Mount Pearl Square and the HSC Dialysis Unit, community health nurses Melanie and Jill, Dr. Bense Eye Clinic and the Eye clinic at the HSC. Thank you for all your kindness and compassion. A very special thank you to Don’s homecare givers Natasha and Khristina and Don’s buddy and four-legged friend Hobo. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Friday, August 23, 2019 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place from St. Pius X Church, Smithville Crescent, St. John’s, NL on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of NL, the Diabetes Association of NL, Heart and Stroke Foundation of NL, Ronald McDonald House NL, Hyperbaric Unit at the Health Science Centre and the Newfoundland CNIB Foundation.
