Mary Loretta (Lil) Ryan (nee Canning)

My dear aunt Mary Loretta (Lil) Ryan (nee Canning) passed peacefully away on March 4, at St. Patrick's Mercy Home in St. John's, at the age of 93. She was predeceased by husband Kevin and daughter Patsy. Born in Aquaforte and a lifelong resident of Fermeuse, aunt Lil was loved by all who knew her because of her ready sense of humour, her honesty and her kindness. When her gay nephew brought his boyfriend to meet her over forty years ago she was warmly accepting and welcoming, no small thing in the mid 1970's for a devout Catholic. We three have been close friends ever since. She will be missed by her friends, cousins, nephews, and nieces, particularly Helen Walsh of Ferryland, Diane Pike of Dartmouth NS, and Frank Abbott, and Richard Dennis of Vancouver BC. A vigil was held on Friday May 25 at Gerald Fahey's Funeral Home, Fermeuse. Funeral on Saturday May 26 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Fermeuse. Interment to follow at the parish cemetery, Fermeuse. The family wants to express very heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of 3 East at St. Patrick's who took such good care of aunt Lil.
