Shirley Riggs

We are saddened by the passing of Shirley (Way) Riggs on April 2, in Halifax. Shirley was born in Savage Cove, Newfoundland. She graduated from the General Hospital School of Nursing and worked at the Grenfell Mission Hospital in St. Anthony, Newfoundland; the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta and the Health Science Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Shirley was predeceased by her parents John and Hazel (Coles) Way, sisters Eileen and Olive and brother Don. Left with precious memories of her life are husband Frank; sons Geoffrey (Samia) and their children Noah and Liam, and Robert (Rachel) and their children Mason, Lucy, Gavin and Claire; sister Sadie; brothers Gorvin, Clyde, George (Chris) and Greg (Dawn); sisters-in-law Vera, Catherine (Winston), Linda; brothers-in-law Newman (Joan), Harvey (Linda), Roy (Marilyn), Keith (Joanne), Wayne (Barbara); special cousin Joyce; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Thank you to the people in Nova Scotia Continuing Care, Home Care workers, Victorian Order of Nurses, palliative care staff and doctors who took care of Shirley throughout her illness. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Robie Street in Halifax on April 27th, at 11:00 am.
