Friday, Feb. 16 was a great night for my wife Cathy and I. We came to St. John’s from Port Dover, Ont. to visit our friends Wayne and Marion, and especially to see the event Red Island — Resettlement Girl at The Rooms.

The performance was made up of stories from Marion Counsel’s youth growing up on Red Island and being part of Resettlement in the ’60s to the main island. Storytelling, music — both guitar and singing — gave the audience of 200-plus lots to laugh, cry and cheer about.

Amazing is an understatement. The show sold out, so a second has been added for Sunday, Feb. 25th. Marion, Barb O’Keefe and Helen Murphy are great ambassadors for Newfoundlanders in every way.

Cathy and I love Newfoundland so much that we try to visit a couple of times a year. Next time we want to visit Red Island.
