Ed Healy is spot on in his Nov. 7 defense of Gov. Gen. Julie Payette (“A scientist talking science — that’s outrageous!”).

As an engineer/scientist, and also a church member, I applaud her appointment and her perfectly valid and appropriate statements on science.

With few exceptions, perhaps Vincent Massey and Georges Vanier, all the men in this role have been pretty well forgettable nonentities. All the women who have served this country as governor general: Jeanne Sauvé, Adrienne Clarkson, Michaëlle Jean, have been notable and memorable here and abroad, even outstanding.

Keep it up, Your Excellency!
