Letter: Muskrat Falls and other white elephants

There have been two interesting developments in the building of electric power plants/dams.

South Carolina has stopped building a nuclear reactor that was in the midst of being built. This was, from my understanding, due to cost overruns and delays. They did have to pay up, as there were contracts in place. The estimated cost to build was around US$12 billion.

Out in British Columbia, the NDP government has asked for a review of Site C dam. This is due to construction delays and cost overruns. Site C is similar to Muskrat Falls.

Our government, so far, has refused to do either option. The above two items are being built by the respective governments. There hasn’t been much mention of these two items in the local media. If you weren’t looking or listening, you might have missed the news items about these items. The government either hasn’t seen/heard about said items or has chosen to keep quiet about them.

I hope the local media picks up on it and makes an issue of it.
