Just before midnight, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary — with its police dog service — responded to the report of a robbery with violence that just occurred in the Broadway area.
It is alleged a woman confronted the elderly woman as she was walking home, pushed her to the ground, and stole her purse. The suspect fled the scene, and police were unsuccessful in finding her. She allegedly got away with the purse containing personal items, identification, and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The victim, who called police from a local business, was taken to Western Memorial Regional Hospital via ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
“Police are very concerned over this unprovoked attack on a vulnerable member of our community, and the investigation into this incident is ongoing at this time,” according to the RNC via a statement issued in the overnight police report.
Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible, and anyone with information concerning this incident should contact police at 637-4100 or Crimestoppers.
