The Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League have signed Zach O’Brien of St. John’s to a professional tryout.

O’Brien, who attended the St. John’s IceCaps’ training camp in the fall, was playing for the Ontario Reign of the ECHL, where he had two goals and two assists in five games.

O’Brien, along with goaltender Aaron Dell, was signed following the promotion of Linden Vey, Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson to the parent Los Angeles Kings.

Dell will replace the Monarchs’ No. 1 goalie, Martin Jones, who was recalled to the Kings following an injury to Jonathan Quick.

O’Brien, 21, led the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Acadie-Bathurst Titan with 47 goals and 45 assists in 66 games season.
