Students at Waterford Valley High in St. John’s will be staging a tribute winter rugby game next week in honour of a former Waterford Valley teacher and rugby player, Danny King.

King passed away unexpectedly this time last year. He was only 45.

He was a stalwart with The Rock rugby team, which won four MacTier Cup Rugby Canada Super League titles, and was also a key member of Swilers local rugby teams.

In addition to his rugby exploits, King was also a champion powerlifter.

He was a well-respected physical education and nutrition teacher at Waterford Valley High.

Boys and girls from Waterford Valley high will play a flag rugby game at 12:20 p.m. next Tuesday, Jan. 17, on the pitch next to the school.
