Soccer player Alex Murphy is The Telegram sports department’s choice as athlete of the week.
Murphy scored three goals in three games last weekend to help the provincial women’s team to a perfect 3-0 record and the Atlantic Under-18 Showcase tournament championship last weekend in St. John’s.
The province’s boys’ squad also went 3-0 to win the crown.
Teams from each of the four Atlantic provinces played a round-robin schedule at King George V Park.
Murphy scored two goals, the game-winner and an insurance marker, as Newfoundland and Labrador defeated New Brunswick 3-1, and scored again in a 2-1 decision over Nova Scotia.
The provincial team capped off its perfect weekend with a 1-0 win over P.E.I.
