For the second straight week, a fastpitch softball pitcher has been selected The Telegram sports department’s Athlete of the Week.
This time it’s St. John’s Molson Intermediate Softball League chucker Eric Healey of the Conception Bay Central Junior Canadians, who struck out 45 batters in 19 innings of work this week.
Thursday, Healey struck out 17 and allowed only four hits as the Junior Canadians defeated RMM Republic 3-1 at Lions Park.
Last Sunday, in a game that last only five innings, Healey registered 12 strikeouts in a 10-3 win over Sable Building and Design.
And last Friday night, he fanned 16 in a complete-game 6-5 victory over Chayee Bourras NL Selects.
Healey also helped his own cause at the plate in each game, collecting a run-scoring single Thursday night, two hits against Sable Sunday, and stroking a double in the win over the Selects.
