Heather Healey named to national U20 women’s baseball team

Baseball’s Heather Healey will represent Canada on the international diamond again next month after being named to the national under-20 women’s squad last week.

The native of Paradise is one of 15 players named to a team set to compete at a tournament in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from June 1-5.

Healey is one of three players who have played for Canada before, while the other 12 will be making their international debut.

Healey, who plays for Feildians in the St. John’s Molson intermediate baseball league locally, suited up for Canada at the 2014 Women's Baseball World Cup in Japan and this past summer she tossed a complete game one-hitter with four strikeouts to help lead British Columbia to a bronze medal at Baseball Canada's senior women's baseball invitational tournament in Saguenay, Que.

She also attended a national team selection camp ahead of last year’s Pan American Games in Toronto.

Joining Canada and the host Dominicans at the tourney are Mexico and Cuba.
