Shammies all alone in top spot

OMT Shamrocks pulled ahead of idle Gonzaga Vikings in the race for first place in the St. John’s Molson senior baseball standings with a 12-0, five-inning win over the lowly Blazers Thursday night.

At Smallwood Drive Ball Park, ageless veteran Peter Cornick, back with the Shammies where he starred for many years, and Dave Penney both scored three runs for the green and gold. Ryan Dooley pitched a one-hitter over the five innings. Evan Green was tagged with the loss.

Trevor Clarke and Greg Barry had two hits apiece for Shamrocks.

In another game, played at St. Pat’s Ball Park, Knights outscored Fifth Ticket Feildians 13-7.

Jason Kearley (5IP, 4H, 3R, 2 ER, 5BB, 4K) got the win with relief help from Brandon Jackson (2IP, 3H, 4R, 4ER, 3BB, 1K). Alex Walsh (5.1IP, 14H, 13R, 11ER, 1BB, 3K) was roughed up in taking the loss. John Walsh (1.2IP, 2H, 1R, 1ER,  1BB, 1K) finished up.

Steve Brien had a huge night for Knights with a four-for-four performance at the plate — two doubles and a triple and five RBIs. Shawn Beson was 4-5 for four singles.

Daniel Humber was two-for-three in a losing cause with a pair of runs batted in.
