Age groups range from Rally Cap (6-7) to Midget (16-17). Head instructors Mark Healy, Sean Gulliver and Glenn Cribb will use the entire Techniplex for the sessions, which focus on skill development, teaching baseball strategies and rules, and having fun.

SJMBA executive director Mike Buist says since Newfoundland and Labrador has a short baseball season, many local associations in the province run programs throughout the year and encourage coaches to attend Baseball Canada-approved coaching clinics. For example, the SJMBA had Rob Burton at the most recent National Blue Jays Coaching Clinic in Toronto, where Jays alumni such as Buck Martinez, Duane Ward, Lloyd Moseby, Devon White and Rance Mulliniks covered topics from fielding fundamentals to scouting and grounds crew information.

Buist anticipates membership in youth baseball to increase this year due to the wave of popularity the sport enjoyed during the Blue Jays’ pennant run. For those interested in starting in baseball, contact your local baseball association online.
