At St. Pat’s Ball Park, Holy Cross (8-9) got three RBIs from Dean Hammond in downing the winless Blazers 12-1 in a game shortened to five innings when the league’s 10-run mercy rule came into effect.
Ron French (6H, 2W, 7K) got the win, while Ryan Hounsell took the loss.
Hammond and Mark Healey of the Blazers each had two hits.
Meanwhile, at the Gushue Complex in Mount Pearl, starter Matt Murphy and reliever Scott Goosney combined to scatter eight hits as the Shammies downed the Knights 5-2.
Murphy went the first four innings, while Goosney finished up with three scoreless frames.
Trevor Clarke had three hits for the Shamrocks (15-3), while Jay Warford had two. Charlie Kelly scored twice for the winners.
Matt Sullivan went the distance on the mound for the Knights (10-7).
The second-place Gonzaga RMM Vikings (13-3) and Fifth Ticket Feildians (4-12) were idle Tuesday, but are set to see action Thursday when all six of the league’s team are scheduled to play.
