While the Shammies and Vikings each came away with victories, they did so in much different fashion, with Gonzaga outscoring Holy Cross Trinity Pub 14-9 , while the Shamrocks blanked the Blazers 3-0.

Scott Hynes pitched the win, going the distance while allowing five earned runs on nine hits and two walks. He struck out four.

Gonzaga got to Holy Cross starter Kevin Cashin early, tagging him for 11 runs -- eight of them earned -- in just one inning of work. Matt Smith pitched the final six innings for the Crusaders, allowing three unearned runs.

Brian Kirkpatrick had three hits and drove in three runs for Holy Cross (2-6), which has lost six straight games after opening the season with two wins.

In the shutout win by the Shamrocks (6-2), Ben Murphy spun a two-hitter over six innings, striking out eight while walking two batters. Dylan Mackenzie pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the save.

Travis Jackson went the distance on the mound for the Mount Pearl-based Blazers, allowing two unearned runs.
