Fourth-year guard Sydney Stewart is Memorial Athletics’ athlete of the week after her strong performance in the Marie’s Mini Mart Fall Classic in St. John’s.
Memorial didn’t win any of its three games in the exhibition women’s basketball tournament, but Stewart was named an all-star after leading her team in scoring in each game. The sociology student from London, Ont., averaged 16.6 points per contest and finished with 18 total rebounds, tying her for the team lead.
The Lady Hawks begin their 2017-18 Atlantic University Sport season on the road early next month.
No men’s athlete of the week was named as none of Memorial’s male varsity teams saw action last week.
