Gary Oke finds himself in the hunt for a championship in the early going.

Oke’s foursome out of the Corner Brook Curling Club has improved to 3-1 at the 2017 national Masters curling championships at the Guelph Curling Club.

Oke downed Robert MacDiarmid of New Brunswick in the late draw Tuesday night for his second win and then picked up his third win Wednesday morning with an 8-5 win over host Ontario’s Jim Lyle.

Oke was scheduled to battle Fred Armstrong of Alberta in a late draw Wednesday.

Things haven’t gone so well for Jean Rockwell of the Corner Brook Curling Club — the province’s representative on the women’s side.

Rockwell, a Pasadena native, fell to 0-5 after falling 8-3 to Delores Syrota of Saskatchewan and 7-2 to Alberta’s Diane Foster.
