If the trend continues, look for Stacie Curtis to emerge from the 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial championship field. That’s because, if one believes in such things, it’s her turn.

In this Feb. 16, 2015 file photo, Newfoundland and Labrador skip Heather Strong delivers a shot during play in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw, Sask. Strong has been this province’s skip in 13 national women’s curling championship.

Since 2011, Curtis and Heather Strong have been battling it out on the curling ice. Curtis, a former Canadian junior champ and world junior silver medallist, won in 2011, followed by Strong, followed by Curtis, followed by Strong again in 2014 and ’15, followed by Curtis last winter.
So if this can be seen as the continuation of a pattern, then it stands to reason Curtis will add another title, right?
Not if Strong, a southpaw shooter, has anything to do it. Newfoundland’s most decorated female curler is seeking her 13th provincial championship, and a berth in the national Scotties championship Feb. 18-26 in St. Catharines, Ont.
Joining the two teams teams in the provincials, which will be held in conjunction with the Tankard men’s championship, beginning Thursday at Bally Haly, are 2010 provincial champ Shelley Hardy, Beth Hamilton and Cindy Miller.
All five teams are from the ReMax Centre/St. John’s Curling Club.
