The 2018 Herder Memorial Trophy provincial senior hockey championship is returning to a best-of-seven affair this spring.
Newfoundland and Labrador announced Tuesday the Herder will open in the home rink of the Central West league champion on Saturday, April 7 with Game 2 April 8. The series will then revert back to the East Coast league winner for Games 3, 4 and 5, if necessary, on April 13, 14 and 15. If needed, Games 6 and 7 will be played back in Central West April 21-22.
The newly-formed East Coast league championship team will be permitted to add three strengthening players from teams within their league when they meet up in the Herder final.
This was determined last week after delegates had the opportunity to consider the rosters and interlocking competition to date.
