PILLEY’S ISLAND, N.L. — Table tennis players at Dorset Collegiate have proven to be the best in the province all season, now they have shown they are among the best in Atlantic Canada.

The school in the Green Bay community of Pilley’s Island captured its fourth-straight provincial team table tennis championship earlier this year. It coincided with individual titles in four of the five categories of the sport — boys and girls singles, girls doubles, and mixed doubles.

All but one of the eight members of the central team at the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Winter Games were from Dorset. The players captured five gold medals, four silver, and a bronze at the games.

When the top table tennis players in Atlantic Canada came together in Paradise May 19-20, the Dorset athletes were looking to continue their success on the bigger stage. They did just that.

The Under-18 girls team — sisters Brianna, Grade 12; Sarah, Grade 8; and Karlee Warren, Grade 7 — earned a silver. The Under-18 Boys team — Ty Winsor, Grade 10; Riley Vincent, Grade 11; and Michael Hiscock — also claimed silver.

Brianna and Sarah teamed up to win gold in girls Under-18 doubles, while Brianna teamed up with Winsor to win silver in Under-18 mixed doubles. Brianna also won silver in both Under-18 and Under-21 girls singles.

Sarah also won gold in Under-15 girls singles and Under-21 girls singles. She teamed up with her other sister Karlee to win gold in the Under-15 girls doubles.

Winsor also won “D” singles gold.
