Tyler Forsey scored his second goal of the game in extra time lifting the St. Lawrence Laurentians a 3-2 win over Holy Cross Sunday at King George V Park, giving Big Blue a split of its two-game series weekend series against its Johnson Insurance Challenge Cup arch-rivals.
Holy Cross had won 1-0 in a Saturday matchup.
Tyler Kirby of defending champion Holy Cross, who also had two goals Sunday, opened the scoring at 25 minutes, then Forsey knotted things up before the halftime intermission. Kirby put the Crusaders back in front nine minutes into the second half, but Kyle Edwards tied it up for St. Lawrence 15 minutes later, setting the stage for the late heroics of Forsey, who led the Challenge Cup in scoring last season when he was with Mount Pearl.
Saturday at KGV, Scott Woodfine scored the game’s lone goal seven minutes in and Jack Haywood posted the shutout in the Holy Cross victory.
There were two other Challenge Cup games on the weekend. On Sunday at the Dianne Whalen Complex, the C.B.S. That Pro Look Strikers blanked homestanding Paradise 1-0, with Nate Jones scoring early in second half and Scott Budden posting the shutout.
On Saturday, Felly Elonda scored twice, Emmanuel Dolo tallied what would stand as the game-winner and Braeden Sheppard posted the shutout as league-leading Feildians whitewashed winless Mount Pearl ProActive Physio 3-0.
Feildians are three points ahead of C.B.S., but the Strikers have two games in hand.
