Thomas Hagan of the Swilers Rugby Club in St. John’s is in Ireland this weekend with Canada’s national under-19 team. The squad opened a three-game tour Friday against Campbell College in Belfast, and has games scheduled against Ards RFC Selects today and Ulster U19 Development squad Tuesday.

Noteworthy is the fact Hagan, who plays the hooker position, is in his first year of rugby.

Hagan joins fellow Swiler Campbell Clarke on the tour.

Meanwhile, two other Swilers are in Arizona as part of a pair of Rugby Canada U18 teams playing a series of games against a pair of U.S. high school all-American teams.

Thursday, the Canadian teams defeated their American opponents by 32-29 and 25-24 scores. The teams play again Sunday and Tuesday, both Canadian teams go head-to-head.

Evan MacKenzie and Alex Hickman are with the Canadian teams — Canada White and Canada Red — and will be opposing each other Sunday.
