Hockey player Nick Gosse is The Telegram sports department’s choice as athlete of the week.
The big forward helped the St. John’s Maple Leafs advance to the Newfoundland and Labrador Major Midget Hockey League final with a pair of wins over the East Coast Blizzard last weekend.
Friday, Gosse scored twice and added an assist in a 4-2 win, and followed up with a goal and a helper in a 2-0 Leafs victory Saturday.
The Leafs took the best-of-seven semifinal 4-2.
Goose played for the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
St. John’s now plays Western Kings in the best-of-seven league final which gets under way tonight in Corner Brook.
