Three weeks into the 2016-17 Central Western Hockey League, the Gander Flyers will get to play their first home games Saturday night and Sunday afternoon against the Clarenville Caribous at the Steele Community Centre.
The Flyers opened their season two weeks ago in Grand Falls-Windsor, splitting a pair of games with the Cataracts at Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium. They were idle last weekend, as part of the necessary schedule accommodations in what has become a three-team league that only plays on weekends.
Gander has been bolstered by some off-season additions, among them netminder Marc Cheverie, forward Tyler Carroll and Brandon Hynes, who finished second in league scoring last year while toiling with the Corner Brook Royals.
The Caribous are coming off a pair of losses to the Cataracts last weekend in Grand Falls-Windsor.
Games times in Gander are 7:30 tonight and 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
