The Gander Ford Flyers made the most of home ice over the weekend to strengthen their hold on first place in the Central West Senior Hockey League.

Sunday at the Steele Community Centre in Gander, Flyers captain Mitchell Oake scored twice in a 5-2 win over the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts.

Including interlocking contests with East Coast Senior Hockey League clubs, Gander (8-1-1) has just one regulation loss in 10 games

A night earlier, the Flyers overcame a 4-2 Clarenville first-period lead to down the visiting Ford Caribous 9-6.  Brandon Hynes and Jordan Escott each had four points for the winners on a goal and three assists.

The CWSHL weekend schedule began Friday night at Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in Grand Falls-Windsor, where the Caribous (5-5-0) downed the Cataracts 5-2 behind Ryan Desrosiers’ hat trick. Grand-Falls-Windsor also has a 5-5 record.

Note: Records include results from interlocking games with ECSHL
